David Songulashvili Meets with the Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan in Baku

During the meeting with the Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture, Mr Majnun Mammadov, Mr David Songulashvili discussed the current state of Georgia–Azerbaijan cooperation in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, as well as prospects for further development.

As mentioned, the high-level political dialogue and existing working formats provide a solid foundation for deepening the partnership and achieving tangible results.

Particular emphasis was placed on the institutional framework, including the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022 and the Joint Working Group established in 2025, which serves as an effective platform for strengthening sectoral coordination and practical cooperation.

“During the meeting, we discussed cooperation in adopting modern approaches in the agri-food sector, developing value chains, and implementing joint projects. Agri-food trade between Georgia and Azerbaijan has been steadily increasing, and there is significant potential for its further expansion,” Mr David Songulashvili stated.

“During the meeting, we discussed opportunities for cooperation in introducing modern approaches in the agri-food sector, developing value chains, and implementing joint projects. Agri-food trade between Georgia and Azerbaijan has been steadily increasing, and there is significant potential for its further expansion,” Davit Songulashvili stated.

Notably, in 2025, Georgia exported agri-food products to Azerbaijan worth USD 207.6 million, representing a 19% increase compared to 2024. Azerbaijan accounted for 11% of Georgia’s total agri-food exports in 2025.

During the same period, Georgia imported agri-food products from Azerbaijan valued at USD 98.9 million, marking a 36% increase compared to 2024. Azerbaijan's share in Georgia’s total agri-food imports stood at 4% in 2025.

“Georgia–Azerbaijan relations are steadily enhancing, built on friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation. We have considerable potential to deepen collaboration in agriculture, science, and research, including joint efforts to combat transboundary diseases. We are also actively cooperating in the field of winemaking. Georgian wine enjoys strong global recognition, and Azerbaijan is one of its important markets. Georgian winemakers possess rich experience and expertise, which are of great interest and value to us,” Mr Majnun Mammadov stated.

The Deputy Minister, Mr Lasha Dolidze; Head of the International Relations and European Integration Department, Mr Davit Chitaishvili; Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr Zurab Gozalishvili; Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili; and Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mrs Maia Tabagari, accompanied the Minister.
