David Songulashvili Participates in the Scientific Conference “Biographical Features of Erekle II: Narrative and Historical Reality”
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, participated in the national scientific conference “Biographical Features of Erekle II: Narrative and Historical Reality,” at the Palace of King Erekle II in Telavi.
The conference aimed to present newly uncovered historical evidence concerning the birth date of King Erekle II and to adopt a corresponding resolution grounded in these findings.”
In his welcoming remarks, the Minister emphasised the exceptional role of Erekle II in strengthening Georgian statehood.
“Clarifying the birth date of King Erekle — a great Georgian, military commander, statesman, and outstanding historical figure, represents an important step for our history and for ensuring the accuracy of historical events,” Mr David Songulashvili stated.
The conference included discussions on various aspects of Erekle II’s biography, analyses of historical sources, and family archives of the Bagrationi Dynasty.
Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Mr Givi Mikhanadze; Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr Giorgi Mirtskhulava; State Representative in the Kakheti Region, Mr Platon Kalmakhelidze; Alaverdi Metropolitan Bishop David; as well as representatives of local self-government bodies and academic circles attended the conference.
