David Songulashvili Attends Georgian Wine Exhibition and Tasting Event Held within the Framework of National Wine Day
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, attended the Georgian wine exhibition and tasting held at Gudiashvili Square in the historic district of Tbilisi as part of the National Wine Day celebrations.
The event featured products from Georgian wine-producing companies, family wineries, and wine bars, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the diversity of wines and winemaking traditions across various regions of Georgia.
The Minister congratulated the citizens of Georgia on National Wine Day, noting that Georgian wine is an inseparable part of the country’s culture, identity, and centuries-old history.
The 8,000-year-old tradition of Georgian winemaking is an inseparable part of our culture and identity, and it deserves to be honoured with a special day dedicated to it. Today, once again, highlights the exceptional significance of wine for Georgia. It is an opportunity for winemakers to present their products to the wider public, while also creating space for discussions, exchange of experience, and running dialogue on issues related to wine. Wine is an inseparable part of our life, culture, and traditions. For centuries, wine has accompanied the Georgian people; therefore, it is important that National Wine Day is celebrated in such a large-scale and distinguished format,” Mr David Songulashvili stated.
Alongside the wine exhibition and tasting, Gudiashvili Square is also hosting a range of educational and entertainment activities for visitors. The restored historic space brings Georgia’s 8,000-year-old wine culture to life through a contemporary interpretation, allowing guests to explore both historic winemaking traditions and modern wine culture within a single venue.
At the initiative of the National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and by the decision of the Government of Georgia, May 8 is being celebrated for the first time as National Wine Day, aiming to promote Georgian wine as a key element of the country’s identity and cultural heritage. The new initiative seeks to widely promote Georgia’s centuries-old winemaking history and related traditions both domestically and internationally.
As part of National Wine Day, an international scientific conference is also being held, bringing together representatives of Georgia’s wine industry and academic community, along with international wine professionals. The celebrations will conclude at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre with a musical-theatrical performance.
