David Songulashvili met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Saeb Khresat

As part of his working visit to Paris, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr Saeb Khresat.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the potential and key directions for cooperation in the agri-food sector between Georgia and Jordan.

“Market diversification is one of the key priorities contributing to the strengthening of our country’s economy, including the agricultural sector. Where there is genuine potential for cooperation, we must make full use of it. The Ministries of Agriculture of Georgia and Jordan are currently working on a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in the agricultural and food security areas,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.

The parties also focused on opportunities for expanding bilateral trade relations.

“During the meeting with the Minister, we discussed all possible directions of trade and prospects for cooperation. Jordan has a range of products that could be exported to Georgia, while Georgia has the capacity to export high-quality livestock products, particularly sheep, which are in strong demand in Jordan. We are working with the Georgian side on how to define trade volumes and further strengthen bilateral cooperation in this area. In addition, we are also considering other technical issues, including opportunities for cooperation in modern technologies, agricultural information systems, smart agriculture, and extension services. Hopefully, we look forward to future partnership with the Georgian side in the respective areas,” stated Mr Saeb Khresat.

As mentioned, in 2025, Georgia’s exports to Jordan totalled USD 1.3 million, with hazelnuts as the main export product. Imports from Jordan to Georgia mainly consist of dates and small quantities of canned vegetables.

Within the framework of the 93rd General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health, the Ministers also discussed how to promote investment in agribusiness, including strengthening processing, logistics, and supply chain systems.
