David Songulashvili meets with blueberry producers and exporters.

During the meeting with the blueberry producers and exporters, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, presented the initiative to establish a sectoral council for the industry.

“Agricultural development is one of the key priorities for the state, and the blueberry sector is particularly promising in this regard; we have decided to establish a sectoral council to ensure effective management and timely response to the sectoral needs. It is important that, through continuous communication with industry representatives, we define the steps and mechanisms that will contribute to improved quality and increased production of competitive products,” Mr. David Songulashvili stated.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the existing challenges and development prospects of the sector.

The discussion covered issues such as expanding laboratory capacities, improving insurance conditions, strengthening nursery control mechanisms, addressing labor shortages, including adjusting support programs to more effectively respond to the real needs of blueberry producers and exporters.

As mentioned, the council meetings will be held monthly under the supervision of the Deputy Minister, while the Minister will chair meetings on a quarterly basis. This format is expected to enhance communication with industry representatives, better reflect farmers’ interests, and ensure more effective planning of initiatives to develop the blueberry sector.

The Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Lasha Dolidze and Mr. Lasha Avaliani, as well as Heads of relevant Departments within the Ministry system, attended the meeting.
