David Songulashvili Meets with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Shuleiko

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, pays an official visit to the Republic of Belarus.

As part of the visit, Minister Songulashvili held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Yuri Shuleiko. During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to deepen trade and economic cooperation between Georgia and Belarus, emphasising the importance of collaboration in the agri-food sector.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Yuri Gorlov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Pavel Utyupin, and other senior officials.

“Georgia and Belarus possess significant potential for further strengthening bilateral cooperation. Agriculture is one of the leading and strategically important sectors of both economies, providing a solid foundation for expanding trade in agricultural products. Considerable opportunities exist for exporting dairy products from Belarus, including increasing exports of Georgian wine and other agricultural products to the Belarusian market. Furthermore, the exchange of experience and expertise in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable forest management is of particular importance,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.

The Minister thanked the Belarusian side for the constructive dialogue and emphasised that Georgia places great importance on result-oriented cooperation with its partner countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Yuri Shuleiko, noted that the resumption of the activities of the Georgia–Belarus Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation represents an important step toward strengthening bilateral relations.

“Georgia is distinguished by its high-quality agricultural products, particularly fruits, vegetables, and its centuries-old winemaking traditions, which significantly enhance the country's competitiveness in international markets. One of the areas discussed during our meeting concerned the supply and trade of raw materials required for the production of wine and brandy, including grape spirit. At the same time, we attach particular importance to the systematic and transparent management of trade relations. These processes require a coherent and consistent approach that will ensure the stable and predictable development of bilateral economic cooperation. We have also agreed that our next meeting will take place in Belarus next year, where we will review the progress achieved and present tangible results of our joint efforts,” Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Yuri Shuleiko, stated.

The Georgian delegation included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Head of the National Food Agency Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili, Chairman of the National Wine Agency Mr Levan Mekhuzla, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Belarus Mr Giorgi Saganelidze.
