David Songulashvili Meets with Belarusian Minister of Forestry Aleksandr Kulik
As part of his official visit to the Republic of Belarus, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, met with the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Aleksandr Kulik.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in forest management. Minister Kulik delivered a presentation to the Georgian delegation outlining the structure, priorities, and activities of the Belarusian forestry sector and the Ministry of Forestry.
The discussions highlighted several areas for future cooperation, including forest restoration mechanisms, forest fire prevention, the application of modern technologies in forest management, and the development of hunting management systems and ecotourism. The parties agreed that the mentioned areas offer significant opportunities for collaboration through the exchange of expertise and the implementation of joint projects.
“The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is implementing an ambitious forestry reform based on international best practices, aiming to establish an effective mechanism for the protection and sustainable use of our country’s unique natural resources. We need to learn from successful experiences and proven approaches. I believe that the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus and the National Forestry Agency of Georgia can establish productive, results-oriented cooperation that will benefit both sides,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.
Special attention was also devoted to professional capacity building, specialist training, and the development of joint research and educational programs.
“We are ready to share our experience with our Georgian colleagues. During our meeting with the Minister, we agreed to exchange delegations, considering that representatives responsible for forestry management in Georgia will visit Belarus in the near future. We will provide a detailed overview of our legislative framework, the process through which it was developed, technical support mechanisms, and documentation across all areas of forestry management. This includes forest protection against fires, pests, and diseases, forest restoration practices, nursery management, as well as the technologies and approaches we employ in these fields,” said Aleksandr Kulik, Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus.
The meeting at the Ministry of Forestry was attended by Mr Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; Mr Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia; Mr Giorgi Saganelidze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Belarus; and Mr Nikolai Rogashchuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Georgia.
