Georgia and the Kyrgyz Republic Sign the Memoranda of Cooperation in the Fields of Veterinary Services and Radiation and Nuclear Safety
As part of his official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, signed bilateral memoranda of cooperation in the fields of veterinary services and radiation and nuclear safety. Minister Songulashvili is visiting the Kyrgyz Republic along with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr Irakli Kobakhidze, and members of the Georgian Government.
The Memoranda will contribute to deepening sectoral cooperation between Georgia and the Kyrgyz Republic, the expansion of international partnerships, and the adoption of best practices in the respective fields.
"Relations between Georgia and Kyrgyzstan are entering a new phase, which will naturally be reflected in the strengthening of cooperation across various sectors. During this visit, we signed memoranda in both the veterinary and radiation and nuclear safety fields, creating an important foundation for further enhancing our cooperation. At the same time, work is underway in other areas as well to deepen our partnership even further," stated Mr David Songulashvili.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic provides for cooperation and information exchange in the field of radiation and nuclear safety.
The cooperation framework includes the exchange of regulatory practices and legislation, licensing and oversight matters, radioactive waste management, the security of nuclear and other radioactive materials, the development of emergency preparedness and response mechanisms, public awareness-raising initiatives, personnel training, and the strengthening of professional and institutional capacities.
During the visit, a separate memorandum was also signed between Georgia’s National Food Agency under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Veterinary, Livestock Development, Pasture and Animal Feed Service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The document aims to promote bilateral cooperation in the veterinary sector, prevent the spread of infectious animal diseases, including zoonotic diseases, and facilitate trade in products of animal origin.
Within the framework of the Memorandum, the parties will cooperate in sharing expertise in veterinary medicine, strengthening animal disease control measures, improving veterinary and sanitary requirements, and enhancing traceability systems for products of animal origin. The Agreement also envisages organizing joint seminars, conferences, working meetings, and training programs, as well as the conduct of scientific research and the provision of technical support in the fields of veterinary and sanitary safety.
