David Songulashvili Participates in the Event Promoting Rural and Agricultural Development in Adjara
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, along with the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Mr Zurab Pataradze, and the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Mr Denis Salukvadze, participated in the event “Promoting Rural and Agricultural Development in Adjara.”Minister Songulashvili addressed the audience, underscoring the importance of agricultural development, the need to support farmers, and the key priorities for advancing the sector.
“With Adjara’s unique climate and abundant natural resources, the region has strong potential for fruit, beekeeping, and citrus production. To fully utilize this potential, it is essential to adopt modern technologies, improve knowledge and expertise, and expand access to financial resources. State support programs are designed to help farmers modernize production assets, improve product quality, and increase productivity.
The development of family farms remains one of the key priorities for the Central Government. The Government of Adjara’s program is a successful example of this approach. Supporting 5,000 beneficiaries by the end of the year means 5,000 new opportunities for farmers and a significant contribution to regional and national economic development,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.
According to the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Mr Zurab Pataradze, ongoing agricultural programs aim to support farmers and strengthen their economic capacity.
“With the support of the Central Government, agricultural programs and projects of unprecedented scale are being implemented to expand opportunities for farmers, strengthen the agricultural sector, and foster sustainable development in rural communities. When we speak about the development of Adjara and the region’s overall prosperity, agriculture plays a particularly important role in the mentioned process.
The Family Farm Development Program is among the initiatives specifically designed to strengthen farmers economically and promote rural development,” stated Mr Zurab Pataradze.
During the event, the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Mr Denis Salukvadze, presented plans and priorities for the development of the agricultural sector. According to him, the Ministry’s primary objectives are to strengthen farmers’ economic opportunities, promote the adoption of modern technologies, and support the sustainable development of agriculture.
As part of the event, beneficiaries of the Family Farm Development Program were awarded agricultural co-financing vouchers. The program aims to strengthen family farms and agricultural cooperatives, improve access to financial resources, and enhance the competitiveness of the agri-food sector.
Under the program, approximately 5,000 farmers will receive various types of agricultural machinery and equipment through co-financing support in 2026.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Lasha Avaliani, Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili, representatives of Adjara’s legislative and executive authorities, and local farmers attended the meeting.
