David Songulashvili Visits Herbia LLC’s Greenhouse Farm

As part of his visit to the Imereti Region, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, toured the agricultural operations of Herbia LLC in Tskaltubo Municipality.

According to Minister Songulashvili, one of the key priorities of the state’s agricultural development policy is supporting the establishment and expansion of greenhouse farming. Increasing agricultural production in protected ground ensures a stable and continuous supply of produce to both domestic and export markets throughout the year, rather than on a seasonal basis. To this end, the Government is implementing several programmes to promote agricultural development in the country.

Herbia LLC operates a greenhouse farm and supplies the local market with a variety of herbs and vegetables. The company distributes its produce through major retail chains operating across Georgia.

Herbia LLC has been a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency since 2014. The company has benefited from both the Integrated Development Programme for Pilot Regions and the Preferential Agro Credit Project.

In the Imereti Region, under the Preferential Agro Credit Project, commercial banks have issued more than GEL 50.7 million in agricultural loans for establishing greenhouse farms. The Rural Development Agency’s co-financing contribution has exceeded GEL 10.9 million.

The Deputies of the Minister, Mr Lasha Avaliani and Mr Giorgi Tskrialashvili, the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr Zurab Gozalishvili, the Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili, and representatives of the local authorities accompanied the Minister Songulashvili.
