David Songulashvili: “It is crucial to fully utilize Georgia’s aquaculture potential”
During his visit to the Imereti region, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, inspected a fish farming facility in the village of Geguti, Tskaltubo Municipality.The Company LLC “AT” breeds various species of fish, including sturgeon, carp, and silver carp, and produces caviar, which is sold on the domestic market and exported to countries such as the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.
“Georgia has strong potential for aquaculture development. To fully utilize this potential, we are working closely with sector stakeholders to strengthen biosecurity standards, improve financing mechanisms, and advance the legislative framework. To produce high-quality, competitive products that meet internationally recognized food safety standards, it is essential to ensure proper knowledge and access to that knowledge,” said Mr Songulashvili.
The Deputies of the Minister, Mr Lasha Avaliani and Mr Giorgi Tskrialashvili, the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr Zurab Gozalishvili, the Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili, and representatives of local authorities accompanied the Minister.
