Minister David Songulashvili Meets Agro-Food Exporters

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, held a meeting with representatives of companies exporting agro-food products.

During the meeting, the Minister focused on the expansion of Georgian agri-food exports, access to new markets, and the development of trade relations.

As mentioned, rising international demand for Georgian agro-food products has been observed across multiple regions, with Middle Eastern countries such as Jordan, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia expressing interest in importing small ruminants. Moreover, the Belarusian market shows demand for non-alcoholic beverages, almonds, and hazelnuts. Meanwhile, Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan  demonstrate particular interest in Georgian non-alcoholic beverages, hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, and citrus fruits.

This growing demand is regarded as a key driver in developing the agro-food sector, diversifying export markets, and supporting broader economic growth in the country.

“As part of my visits to Central Asian countries, one of the main objectives is to facilitate access for Georgian agro-food products to new markets and expand export opportunities. It is therefore essential to receive detailed information from the private sector regarding the export potential of specific products, as well as the challenges exporters face when entering new markets, which will ultimately enable us to use state resources and support mechanisms more effectively and provide real assistance to businesses in identifying and establishing themselves in new markets,” said Mr David Songulashvili.

To ensure effective cooperation and timely coordination, the Minister proposed to establish an Agro-Food Exporters’ Council. The Council will hold a meeting on a quarterly basis to ensure regular communication between the public and private sectors.

The Deputy Minister , Mr Lasha Dolidze, as well as the Heads of relevant Agencies within the Ministry system, attended the meeting.
