The enforcement of the ban on serving beverages in plastic bottles at public catering establishments has been postponed until February 1, 2031.
Amendments have been introduced to the Government of Georgia Decree No. 106 of March 12, 2026, "On the Prohibition of the Production, Import, and Placement on the Market of Certain Plastic Products Intended for Food Contact."Under the amendment, the enforcement date of the ban on serving beverages to consumers in plastic bottles at food service establishments has been postponed by four years. The new effective date has been set as February 1, 2031.
Under Government Decree No. 106 of March 12, 2026, the restriction had originally been scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026. The decision to postpone its implementation was made following additional consultations with the private sector, business associations, and other relevant stakeholders.
