David Songulashvili: “State Policy is Focused on Encouraging the Production of High-Quality Wine”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, visited the winery LLC “Uplistsikhe Estate” located in the village of Kvakhvreli, Gori Municipality. Together with the State Representative for the Shida Kartli region, Mr Simon Guledani, the Minister toured the enterprise’s infrastructure, vineyards, and gastro space and became familiar with the company’s operations.

LLC “Uplistsikhe Estate” has been a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency since 2020 and has received co-financing of GEL 311,259 under various state support programmes.

“Georgian winemaking combines centuries-old traditions, modern production methods, and significant economic potential. Accordingly, ensuring the quality of Georgian wine and promoting its recognition are among our key priorities. The innovations already introduced in the wine sector, as well as those currently being implemented, serve one primary objective — to ensure that Georgian wine is competitive, high-quality, and distinguished by its value. The state policy aims at encouraging the production of high-quality wine,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.

With the support of the Rural Development Agency, LLC “Uplistsikhe Estate” received co-financing under the State Programme for the Promotion of Agro-Production for constructing a greenhouse.

The company has also benefited from the Programme for the Promotion of Organic Production, under which it received support for developing organic viticulture, including the acquisition of relevant agricultural inputs.

For the further development of its operations, the company also used the Preferential Agrocredit Programme to finance the construction of the winery, the purchase of grape-processing equipment, and agricultural machinery. In addition, under the State Programme for Co-financing Agricultural Mechanisation, the company received funding for the acquisition of a tractor and tractor attachments.

Today, LLC “Uplistsikhe Estate” produces 10,000 bottles of wine annually. The winery’s tasting space accommodates up to 60 guests, while its products are sold on the local market.

The company provides stable employment for 8 people throughout the year, while seasonal activities generate additional jobs for up to 20 employees.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Lasha Avaliani, Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili, and representatives of the local government accompanied the Minister.
