David Songulashvili: “State Support Programs Enable Farmers to Expand Their Production”
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, visited the ‘’ Mtsvane Qvekhana " (Green Country’) meat poultry farm in the village of Tserovani, Mtskheta Municipality, where he was briefed on the enterprise’s operations.The poultry farm, with a production capacity of 400,000 chickens, supplies its products to the local market. The farm currently employs 40 people.
“The development of the poultry sector is essential for increasing local production. The poultry farm in Tserovani has created conditions that meet modern production requirements, and its products are sold on the local market. It is important to mention that the support provided through state programs is reflected in tangible results, enabling farmers to expand their production,” stated Minister Songhulashvili.
The ‘’ Mtsvane Qvekhana ‘’ (Green Country) farm is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency. In 2014, 2016, and 2021, the enterprise benefited from the Preferential Agrocredit Program to finance the construction and equipping of the poultry farm and establish a slaughterhouse.
Notably, under the Preferential Agrocredit Program, banks across Georgia have issued more than 2,500 loans totaling over GEL 280 million to support the establishment and development of poultry farms. The co-financing of the Rural Development Agency amounts to approximately GEL 67 million. Moreover, in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, banks have issued 61 loans totaling GEL 5.3 million, while the Rural Development Agency’s co-financing exceeds GEL 1.5 million.
The Deputy Minister, Mr Lasha Avaliani; the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr Zurab Gozalishvili; the Mayor of Mtskheta Municipality, Mr Gogi Abuashvili; and Chair of the Mtskheta Municipality Council, Mr Giorgi Eloshvili, accompanied the Minister.
