David Songulashvili: “Our Goal Is to Support the Production of as Many Georgian Products as Possible to Reduce Dependence on Imports”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, got familiar with the operations and production processes at the greenhouse farm of entrepreneur Ramin Nagiev in the village of Mukhrani, Mtskheta Municipality.

The farm produces annual crops, with a monthly production capacity of up to 20 tonnes. Its products are sold on the local market, and the farm employs between 10 and 15 people.

“The development of greenhouse farming is one of the key priorities of our agricultural policy. The modern technologies adopted into production enable farmers to produce their products not only during the growing season but throughout the year. Our goal is to support the production of as many Georgian products as possible to reduce dependence on imports,” said Mr David Songulashvili.

Ramin Nagiev is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency. In 2025, he benefited from the “Georgian Vegetables from Greenhouses” program, receiving a GEL 250,000 loan, with GEL 125,000 in co-financing provided by the Rural Development Agency.

The funding was used for the production of annual crops and the establishment and development of the greenhouse farm. In 2021, the beneficiary also benefited from the Preferential Agrocredit Program to establish the greenhouse farm.

The “Georgian Vegetables from Greenhouses” program, implemented by the Rural Development Agency since 2024, currently has 355 beneficiaries. Commercial banks have issued approximately GEL 45 million in loans to support the establishment of greenhouse farms covering a total area of 55 hectares.

The Deputy Minister, Mr Lasha Avaliani; the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr Zurab Gozalishvili; the Mayor of Mtskheta Municipality, Mr Gogi Abuashvili; and the Chair of the Mtskheta Municipality Council, Mr  Giorgi Eloshvili, accompanied the Minister.
