The first grape seed oil processing plant was opened in Gurjaani

The grape seed oil processing plant was opened in village Velistsikhe, Gurjaani municipality. The.Ukrainian company EcoGeorgian Group made investment of GEL 1 million in the plant. The enterprise is equipped with foreign devices in line with the modern standards
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, First Deputy Governor of Kakheti, Irakli Shiolashvili and Majoritarian MP of Gurjaani, Davit Songhulashvili attended the opening of the enterprise.
According to Levan Davitashvili, opening of new enterprises as well as implementing foreign investments in the country can be a key factor that contributes to the development of the region. Opening of the grape seed oil processing plant in Kakheti region is particularly important in terms of Georgian wine quality control carried out in recent years.
"One of the main directions of our environmental policy is waste management. Since 2014 we have made a strategic decision and have started a strict control of solid remains of grapes after grape processing. This mass, or chacha, derived from enterprises, was a source of secondary production, or wine falsification for many years and this wine was sold mainly on the local market. To sell chacha from the enterprise and transfer to individuals has been restricted for a couple of years. Therefore, wine companies destroy the remaining chacha after the grape pressing, which is related to quite big expenses. In the newly opened enterprise biologically clean products are obtained after pressing chacha "- said the Minister.
In the current year the enterprise plans to receive and process 3,000 tons of grape chacha, from which 55-60 tons of grape seed oil and grape seed flour will be obtained. Products will be exported and negotiations are underway with Turkish and Spanish partners. The enterprise permanently hires up to 25 locals and the number of seasonal workers (August-November) will be increased.
