Measures taken against the Asian Stink Bug invasion positively assessed by MP’s

In 2018, the report made at the Agrarian Issues Committee included implemented measures as well as results achieved in combating the Asian Stink Bug. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili has been focused on current activities taken against the invasive pest, thereby, he brought forward achieved results and causes of crop damage and loss. The Chairman of the Agrarian Committee, Otar Danelia positively evaluated the works implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Food Agency and Coordination HQ.
Anti-pest measures are underway in accordance with the state strategy. In the current year, Georgian Government has taken chemical control / treatment activities on 625 thousand hectares of land.  As a result, pest is not spread in Eastern Georgia and population of pest in West Georgia has decreased compared with the previous year – was noted at the meeting.
In parallel with the  measures taken by the state, local residents and farmers have been actively involved in the farming activities, the measures were taken in time, including activities against the Asian Stink Bug, prevention and treatment of fungal and bacterial diseases.  At the committee meeting, the crop samples taken after chemical treatment were also brought.
The Members of the parliamentary majority, as well as opposition noted that, in comparison with the previous year large-scale measures have been carried out and are still being implemented. Subsequently, the situation has significantly improved.
The farmers, representatives of scientific circles and sectoral associations attended the meeting held at the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.
