Levan Davitashvili attended the presentation of the Environmental Information and Knowledge Management System Platform
The representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, international organizations, academic sector and NGOs attended the presentation of Environmental Information and Knowledge Management System Platform held in the National Botanical Garden of Georgia.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, Deputy Head of the UNDP Munkhtuia Altagerel, Director of Environmental Information and Education Tamar Aladashvili addressed the guests.
"Enhancing environmental education and availability of environmental information is one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The system along with other important functions, collects environmental information and analyzes it in a uniform space, which allows people to have an access to reliable, timely and important environmental data. It is also important, that the system will increase efficiency in environmental decision making and policy formation processes and promote the fulfillment of national needs and international obligations (Rio Conventions, Georgia-EU Association Agreement, Aarhus Convention) "said Levan Davitashvili.
Environmental Information and Knowledge Management System is the first platform in the history of the region, which offers an easy access to information on various environmental issues in the unified space. The system offers customers the opportunity to easily get information on various environmental issues, data processing and monitoring through data analysis techniques, also to enhance effectiveness of environmental decision making and policy formation processes.
The new platform, which combines various information related to environmental issues in one space, was created by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia with the support of the Environmental Information and Education Center, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environmental Fund (GEF).
