David Songulashvili: “Sheep farming is a traditional sector of our country, with significant potential for both local production and export”
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, attended a public celebration dedicated to sheep farmers in the Ninotsminda Municipality, Samtskhe-Javakheti region. As part of the event, the Minister met with local sheep farmers and discussed the challenges and needs they face in their daily activities.
The discussions covered the development of sheep farming, animal health and veterinary services, the efficient use of pastures, including production and market access. The Minister also briefed the farmers on the support available through state agricultural programmes, including the new State Programme for Agricultural Co-Financing.
“Sheep farming is a traditional and important sector for our country, with significant potential both for local production and for export. We need to hear directly from farmers about their needs and the challenges they face in their day-to-day activities. Direct communication with farmers enables us to tailor state support mechanisms to their actual needs.
The new State Programme for Agricultural Co-Financing is based precisely on this approach and aims to establish more flexible and results-oriented support mechanisms for farmers. Our goal is to strengthen local production, promote the development of sheep farming, and provide farmers with greater opportunities to expand and develop their farms,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.
The Sheep Farmers’ Public Celebration has been held annually in Kechalgora, Ninotsminda Municipality, since 2014.
The Deputies of the Minister, Mr Giorgi Tskrialashvili and Mr Lasha Avaliani, the Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili, and representatives of the local authorities accompanied the Minister.
