David Songulashvili: “On-Site Processing of Local Raw Materials Contributes to the Creation of Value-Added Products’’
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, visited the Marneuli Food Factory in the Marneuli Municipality, Kvemo Kartli region, where he learned about the company’s operations and production processes.
Established in 2007, the Marneuli Food Factory is one of Georgia’s major food manufacturers. The factory specialises in processing fruit and vegetables and producing canned food. It manufactures more than 50 types of products, including tomato paste, tkemali, adjika, pickled vegetables, sauces, jams, and preserves.
“It is essential to ensure that locally produced agricultural raw materials are processed locally and transformed into value-added products. On the one hand, this provides farmers with greater opportunities to market their produce; on the other, it supports the development of new enterprises, creates more employment opportunities, and strengthens economic activity in the regions,” stated Mr David Songulashvili.
A key component of the Marneuli Food Factory’s production process is the use of locally sourced raw materials. The factory procures agricultural produce from its partner company, Marneuli Agro, as well as from more than 150 Georgian farmers, helping to strengthen the link between local agriculture and the food-processing industry.
The factory’s products are sold on the local market and exported abroad, including to European and U.S. markets. Among the factory’s exported products, tkemali, pickled cucumbers, and adjika are particularly in demand.
The Kvemo Kartli State Representative, Mr Ilia Jalaghaniya; Deputies of the Minister, Mr Giorgi Tskrialashvili and Mr Lasha Avaliani; Head of the National Food Agency, Mr Giorgi Iakobashvili; and Marneuli Municipality Mayor, Mr Dauri Ismailov, accompanied the Minister.
