Banning the use of plastic bags was discussed with the representatives of the business sector

From October 1, 2018, the production, import and sale of plastic bags with thicknesses less than 15 microns will be banned aiming to reduce the environmental pollution.
The issues of enacting new regulations have been discussed by the members of the Georgian Distributors Business Association and Business Ombudsman together with the representatives of Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. Local manufacturer and distribution companies are underway to introduce new regulations. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili underlined the importance of new regulation and noted, that regulation aims to ban using of plastic bags and protect human health while reducing negative impact on environment. 
"This is a complex campaign which includes complex activities. In the process of developing the document, we had intensive communication with producers, distributors and representatives of retail networks. It is very important for us to get the most effective result through adoption of the new regulation "said Levan Davitashvili.
The Deputy Business Ombudsman of Georgia, Levan Kalandadze noted, that there are many regulations regarding waste management, which due to international obligations will come into force in the nearest future. Levan Kalandadze stressed the importance of leading an effective communication between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and Business Sector.
From October 1, 2018, the production, import and sale of plastic bags with thicknesses less than 15 microns will be banned aiming to reduce the environmental pollution. The new regulation in turn encourages the production, import and sale of biodegradable and compostable bags.
The First Deputy Minister, Nodar Kereselidze, Head of Waste and Chemical Substances Management Department Alverd Chankseliani, Deputy Business Ombudsman, Levan Kalandadze, Distributors Association, importers of plastic bags and local producers attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.Â
