Levan Davitashvili opened Gurjaani Wine Festival

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili along with the representatives of local government attended Gurjaani Wine Festival - held under the frame of the ‘’Georgian Wine Days 2018", featuring  Georgian wine, chacha and other drinks produced by 80 wine making companies, family and small wine cellars. Gurjaani l Wine Festival is celebrated in line with the successful grape harvest 2018, which is marked with a record number of processed grapes – was noted by the Minister.
"Kakheti is the oldest and one of the most important regions of Georgia, which is well-known with its viticulture and winemaking traditions. We welcome wine festival in Gurjaani. It should be noted, that grape vintage was successfully held and the largest number of grapes from all Kakheti municipalities have been processed in Gurjaani municipality. Such events boost popularization of Georgian wine culture.
Increased number of tourists as well as locals visited Gurjaani Wine Festival this year, which indicates, that the festival has gained a popularity and takes a significant place in the tourist calendar. To increase awareness of Georgian wine, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture will actively support similar activities in the future as well "- said Levan Davitashvili.
The festival held for the second time this year aims to promote the development of wine tourism, introduction of Georgian wine culture and wine making as to locals as well as to foreigners. Gurjaani wine festival included tasting of wines, maiking of ‘’tatara’’ and ‘’churchkhela’’, opening of ‘’qvevri’’, also a fun quiz where winners were awarded with wines. Local folk groups also participated in the festival. The event was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture together with the National Wine Agency under the patronage of Gurjaani majoritarian MP Davit Songhulashvili.
"Georgian Wine Day" was first marked in 2014. Considering the interests of tourists as well as locals.
 In 2016, it was decided, that the "Georgian Wine Day" to last all week long, considering the interests of tourists as well as locals, however, in 2018 Georgian wine days are even more widely celebrated. This year, from 5 to 21 October ‘’Georgian Wine Month  2018”  organized by the National Wine Agency comprising of a series of events is celebrated in different regions of Georgia.
