The apple picking season is underway in Georgia

The apple harvest is in full swing. This year Georgia enjoys a plentiful harvest. Since 2015 the state project "Plant the Future" has been implemented to improve the quality of products. New and modern standard perennial gardens have been planted through financial support of Georgian Government across the country. As of today, under the frame of the project "Plant the Future", planting of new apple gardens are financed on 869 hectares throughout Georgia. The state funding amounts to 7,035,807 gel.
It is worth noting, that Georgian Government has taken important steps towards diversification of export markets, that enable farmers and entrepreneurs to export high quality competitive products. Since 2013, 180 new enterprises have been financed within the frame of the "Unified Agro Project". Moreover, with the state support, more than 880 enterprises have been re-equipped. .
Out of these, up to 40 companies are processing enterprises where farmers may deliver apples. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili, together with the Governor of Shida Kartli region, Giorgi Khojevanishvili visited fruit processing modern enterprise ‘’ Biojus ‘’ in Gori Municipality.
The enterprise was created within the frame of the "Unified Agro Project" implemented by the Agricultural Projects Management Agency. The enterprise spent preferential agro credit amounted to 185,000 GEL. The enterprise hires 55 people seasonally, it processes 15,000 tons of apples annually.
The product is sold on the local market and exported to Germany. In the current season, the company has already received 5,000 tons of apples and will deliver 10,000 tons to factories.
Giorgi Khanishvili visited the fruit processing enterprise in the village Shavshvebi in Gori municipality. A new enterprise "Khilari" equipped with modern standards was created within the frame of the "Unified Agro Project" through state financial support.
Overall, the company invested up to GEL 1,500,000, out of which 600,000 GEL is grant and 710,000 GEL preferential agro credit.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili together with the director of the Project Management Agency, Revaz Asatiani and Giorgi Khojevanishvili, the governor of Shida-Kartli region got acquainted with the apple delivery process. More than 300 tons of fruit will be processed in the enterprise annually.
The products will be sold on the local market. Export is also planned. The enterprise hires 20 people seasonally. With the support of the Agriculture Projects Management Agency, the International Standards for Food Safety - ISO 22: 000 was introduced in the company this year. This year, the enterprise has already received 35 tons of apples and 265 more will be delivered in the factories.
