Georgia enjoys record harvest this year" - Levan Davitashvili says

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili summed up the grape vintage 2018 at the briefing held for the media representatives. The Minister introduced journalists with the measures implemented by Georgian Government for the last six years to promote the development of viticulture and winemaking sector in the country.
New vineyards are planted, wine companies created, old wine enterprises expanded and agro-credit and agro-insurance system is operated, the volume of wine export is increased and export markets are diversified in Georgia. With the state support, viticulture and winemaking is strengthened and it does not need any subsidy any longer.
"Georgia enjoys a record harvest this year; A record number - more than 230 thousand tons of grapes have been processed. The population received more than 300 million GEL. Georgian wine export is also at a record high. We expect to export 100 million bottles of wine in 2018”.
The certain stage in the history of development of Georgian wine sector came to an end. Since 2019, we have new goals for the next 5 years and all preconditions have already been created for achieving these new goals "said Levan Davitashvili.
In 2013-2018, grape growers have earned GEL 950 million in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions. Positive indicators in the field gave rise to the possibility that no subsidy would be given to the grapes during the 2018 grape vintage.
In 2013-2018 grape growers living in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi  regions  got an income of 950 million GEL during the harvest period. Due to the positive indicators facing the wine sector 2018 grape harvest was not in need of subsidies. The price of grape was established on the basis of the market economy. Over 230,000 tonnes of grape have been processed during the grape harvest of 2018 and the income of 22,000 grape growers exceeded over 300 million GEL. Such an amount of harvested grapes has not been processed in Georgia since independence.  (52 thousand tons were processed in 2012).
More than 280 private companies were involved in various stages of grape harvesting and processing of viticulture, which led to the uninterrupted process of grapes. About 280 private companies were involved in this year’s harvest, due to which the harvest process was conducted smoothly.
22 thousand grape growers passed their grape to the wine factories,  which is also a record indicator, which means that the number of vineyards has been increased in the country,  new grape growers have been emerged and in recent years, right policies and reforms have been implemented by Georgian Government in the field of viticulture and wine making.
