At the briefing held for the media representatives, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture summed up the grape harvest 2018

The Minister introduced journalists with the measures implemented by Georgian Government during the last six years to promote the development of the vineyard and wine industry and highlighted achieved outcomes.
The new vineyards are planted, new wine companies are created and old wine enterprises are expanded, agro-credit and agro-insurance system is operated, the volume of wine export is increased and export markets are diversified. Viticulture and winemaking sector is strengthened through state support and it no longer needs of any subsidies.
"Georgia - the cradle of wine"- On November 13, 2017, the Scientific Journal of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia (PNAS) published a research article on the study of the archaeological material discovered on the territory of Georgia "Early Neolithic Wine of Georgia in the South Caucasus", proving that wine was made 8000 years ago in the territory of Georgia.
The research carried out within the project "Georgian Vine and Wine Culture Survey" has been implemented by the National Wine Agency since 2014. The above-mentioned scientific conclusions deserved attention of the world media, articles were printed in all leading news and scientific publications (The New York Times, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, National Geographic, Washingtonpost, etc.) In 2014, the large scale vineyards cadastre project for the development of the country's viticulture and wine industry was launched.
The project was implemented in 2014 in Racha-Lechkhumi region, in 2015 in Kvareli, in 2016 in Telavi, in 2017 - Akhmeta and in 2018 - in Gurjaani municipality.
Electronic systems of registration and certification were introduced. In order to improve the quality of wine and alcoholic beverages, the legislative amendments were introduced in the Law of Georgia on Vine and Wine in 2017.
In 2017, 110 tasting were conducted by the National Wine Agency's Tasting Commission for the purpose of organoleptic testing and asseessment of the alcoholic drinks of grape origin. Within the 9 months of the current year, 190 tasting were already held. In 2017, 88 inspection control was performed for table wines and wine brands in the alcoholic beverages companies.
