The issues related to the food safety situation in Georgia was discussed at the meeting

Under the frame of the official visit to Georgia, the President of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Andreas Hensel and Executive Director of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Magnus Jäger met with the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze and Director of the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze.
The participants discussed issues related to the food safety situation in Georgia. According to Nodar Kereselidze, the harmonization process of Georgian legislation with the European legislation as envisaged by the Association Agreement is in progress; At the same time, regulatory agencies responsible for food safety  services are getting stronger.
Within the visit, German guests held a meeting with the representatives of the  Risk Assessment Division of the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture and got acquainted with the implemented projects.
"We plan to enhance cooperation with Georgian side. We would like to share our experiences and provide our Georgian partners with the information regarding how to establish a risk assessment management and communication system. We appreciate the fact, that you have stepped forward in the direction of risk assessment " - Andreas Hensel said.
The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Food Agency, Sanitary, Hygiene and Medical Ecology Research Institute attended the meeting.
Under the frame of the visit, the guests visited the demonstrative-research base of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture in village Jighaura, where they have seen unique and rare species of Georgian grape varieties and tasted wines made from them.
