LAGs considered as an important resource playing key role in rural development

The workshop on rural development was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, where more than 30 representatives of eight municipal local action groups of Georgia (LAG), Georgian Association of Local Action Groups (GALAG) and EU partner NGOs participated.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili attended the workshop. The Deputy Minister thanked Donor organizations for their support and noted, that local action groups are considered as an important resource in rural development, accordingly lags play a great role to enhance engagement and active participation of women and young people in rural activities.
At the meeting, the representatives of local action groups have been focused on current activities implementing to enhance well-being of rural community. Therefore, social, economic, environmental issues vital for sustainable rural development have been brought forward by participants.
The meeting was held under the joint initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Georgian Rural Development Network (GRDN), supporters - EU (UNDP) and UNDP.
