November 5, 2018 -will be the deadline for citrus crop insurance

Under the frame of the Agro Insurance Project, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture gives farmers opportunities to insure their citrus crop to avoid the risk of autumn frosts or other weather-related hazards. Government participation in the insurance policy covers 70%. If farmers are engaged in the project, the insurance policy will cover the following insurance risks for citrus gardens: hail, flood, hurricane and fall frost.
Considering farmers’ interests, private insurance companies engaged in the state project will insure citrus until November 5, 2018. A natural or legal person who owns, or possesses no more than 5 ha of agricultural land can participate in the agro insurance program. According to the changes made to the project, those farmers who registered their land might benefit from the insurance project. According to the data report for September 2018, 12,170 policies have been issued under the frame of the Agro Insurance Project across Georgia;
7,460 beneficiaries are involved in the project; The premium subsidy for crop insurance amounted to 4,395,237 GEL. 11,432 hectares of land is already insured and the harvest value amounts to 84,929,988 GEL.Â
