The possibilities of olive cultivation in Georgia
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze met with the founders of the company "Geo-live", Giorgi Svanidze, Ahmed Kahraman and Ali Sami Ozel.
"Geo-live" built in village Sakobo, Signagi Municipality is the first Georgian olive processing plant, which was created through Dutch-Turkish investments under the frame of the "Co-financing of Agricultural Processing and Storage Enterprises’’.
The Deputy Minister expressed his sincere appreciation for cooperation with Turkish side and noted, that, first Georgian oil processing plant produces high quality, competitive products that are popular both in local and foreign markets.
Under the frame of the Project “Plant the Future “, the participants discussed possibilities of planting olive trees in other regions of Georgia as well. The two sides drew their attention to the cultivation of stevia, which is regarded as one of the most cost-effective and profitable crops and at the same time is a natural sugar free / calorie free sweetener. Turkish guests discussed climate related issues and noted, that climatic conditions in Georgia might be favorable for stevia plants.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of "Geo-live" gave a decorative olive tree to the officials of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
