Levan Davitashvili met with his Counterpart in Montevideo

Under the frame of the official visit to Uruguay, Levan Davitashvili met with his counterpart Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fishery in Montevideo. The sides discussed to launch joint projects in the field of livestock, wine industry, cereal and acquaculture and to further strengthen agricultural cooperation between the two countries. The agro food production, recycling and marketing of agricultural products is of utmost importance, which is the main source of income for the 1/3 of population of both countries.
The export-led livestock sector takes an important part in the agriculture sector of Uruguay. The import of live cattle, meat and meat products is very important in Georgia as well.
The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed to oversee existing issues. The first official visit of Georgian Counterpart Minister to Latin America, which entails a new stage in the trade-economic direction to be launched- was noted by Enzo Benecci.
"Trade should always be bilateral based on the principle of reciprocity. We have the best product in the direction of meat, while Georgian wine has the best reputation and high quality across the world. We are committed to promoting these products in the markets. And this visit will further deepen relations between the two countries, "said Enzo Beniche, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay.
According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Georgian side is ready to support the development of free market economies in the region to promote the main export products of Uruguay in Georgia.
"Our control and trace systems are close to the EU standards, which is a prerequisite for a reliable partnership with free trade regimes that Georgia has with China, the European Union, EFTA Member States and with almost all countries of the region" - said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili.
At the official meeting, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili was accompanied by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina to the Republic of Chile, Paraguay, Republic of Uruguay, Republic of Ecuador and the multinational state of Bolivia, Irakli Khurashvili and the Head of the National Food Agency of Georgia, Zurab Chekurashvili.Â
