Meeting with the State Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili paid a visit to Buenos Aires, where he met with the State Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina, Sergio Bergman. The sides brought forward issues related to the environmental protection, moreover, in the context of national policy development the importance of achieving sustainable development goals was underlined by participants, who also stressed the importance of fulfillment of obligations taken by countries under the frame of the Paris Agreement.
Within the reform adopted by Georgian Government aiming to implement an Optimisation at the central level has led two Ministries to consolidate into a new Ministry. As a result, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture was established, thus contributing to the coordination between sectors and developing effective policies. At present, together with the NGOs and international partners, the Ministry is implementing a number of important projects in the field of environmental protection- was noted by Levan Davitashvili.
"Argentina plays a key role in the implementation of environmental treaties and conventions, accordingly,  joint position set at the international level will contribute to the implementation of sustainable development goals between the countries " - said Levan Davitashvili.
As the State Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina noted, the Covenant of Mayors as well as planning, development and management of sustainable cities are an important part of Argentina's environmental policy.
"Our goal is to gradually move to energy efficiency and environmental technologies and to replace gas-powered cars with electric vehicles " Bergman said.
According to Levan Davitashvili, the Government of Georgia is implementing the concept of green economy, which means implementation of economic activities in accordance with the principles of sustainable development in the country, taking into consideration obligations undertaken within the frame of the European Directives and Association Agreements.
At the official meetings, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili was accompanied by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina to the Republic of Chile, Paraguay, Republic of Uruguay, Republic of Ecuador and the multinational state of Bolivia, Irakli Khurashvili and the Head of the National Food Agency of Georgia, Zurab Chekurashvili.
