Levan Davitashvili held meetings in Argentina
Within the official visit to Argentina, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili met with the President of LA RURAL, Daniel Pelegrina. LA RURAL is an organization supporting large producers and exporters organizing agricultural and livestock exhibitions in Argentina.
The two sides discussed possibilities to activate trade and economic relations between Georgia and Argentina. The organization with a history that dates back 150 years comprises 4,000 large producers which are responsible for promoting Argentinian products in the International markets.
The meeting was also held with the members of the Directorate of CREA Regional Consortia for Agricultural Experimentation. The role of innovative approaches and the importance of sharing experiences to help medium and small farmers increase their production -was underlined by participants at the meeting. Georgia is the first European country the organization cooperates with under the frame of the USAID initiated project G-HIP, furthermore, CREA supports Georgia to reduce harmful effects caused by the invasion of the Asian Stink Bug, increase productivity and produce high quality products in the country.
The organization unites 1500 farmers in Samegrelo and Guria regions. Levan Davitashvili held a meeting at the National Agricultural Technology Institute (INTA) as well.
The above mentioned organization is responsible for providing agricultural extension services to farmers, including, soil degradation reduction, improvement of new species and genetic material, pasture management, biodiversity including forests, management and enhancement of climate change and environmental protection related issues in the country. As the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia stated, to promote the development of environmental and agricultural sectors, all three organizations encourage introduction of innovative approaches to further inspire small and medium and large farmers to increase their production. Despite the export taxes in Argentina, the country takes the leading positions in terms of establishing export products in the world market.
Therefore, Georgia's strategic geographical location, existing trade regimes, also holding leading positions in the global ranking system in terms of promotion of business, creates the background for matching of interests and promotes trade turnover between the countries.
At the official meetings, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili was accompanied by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina to the Republic of Chile, Paraguay, Republic of Uruguay, Republic of Ecuador and the multinational state of Bolivia, Irakli Khurashvili and the Head of the National Food Agency of Georgia, Zurab Chekurashvili.Â
