Conference on Georgian Wine was held in Washington
At the end of the first Georgian Wine forum, the conference dedicated to the Georgian wine culture and modernity was held at the US Strategic and International Studies Center (CSIS) in Washington, DC. The scientists directly engaged in the National Wine Agency project "Georgian Vine and Wine Culture Research" participated in the conference. On November 13, 2017, the Scientific Journal of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States (PNAS) published a research article ‘’Early Neolithic Wine of Georgia in the South Caucasus’’, which included the study of archaeological material found on the territory of Georgia confirming that wine was made on the territory of Georgia. Along with the 8-millennia history of Georgian wines, the participants discussed the political and economic aspects of modern wine industry, foreign investment, local economy and US wine market potential related issues.
It should be noted, that Georgian Wine Forum was organized by the US-Georgia Business Council and supported by the National Wine Agency along with the Embassy of Georgia in the United States. Within the frame of the three-day Forum "Saperavi Festival", Georgian wine tasting events was held for trade and media representatives.
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze, Advisor to Prime Minister of Georgia, Davit Kirvalidze and Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhulsa attended "Georgian Wine Forum" in Washington.
According to Nodar Kereselidze, the US market is very important for Georgian wine. "During these three days, we had an opportunity to present Georgian wine and wine culture for wine professionals and wider society. This was a very important forum in terms of popularization of Georgian wine. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia together with the National Wine Agency will continue supporting similar events in the United States. Diversification of wine export markets is very important for us and in this respect the US is very attractive and interesting market for Georgia "said the First Deputy Minister.
