Minister participated in the conference in Baku

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili participated in the International Conference ‘’ Partnership for Wildlife Restoration in the Caucasus ” held in Baku.  In his speech, Levan Davitashvili spoke about the ongoing environmental projects targeted to restore endangered species of wild fauna and flora and underlined the importance of conservation of wildlife and biodiversity.
"In terms of biodiversity, the Caucasus is one of the richest regions across the world. Over the last decades, the influence of human activity has brought a lot of challenges to the rich biodiversity of the country. It should be noted, that an effort made by one country will not ensure proper protection and conservation of biodiversity, so we need a cross-border cooperation. I would like to admit, that in recent years, Georgia has made significant efforts in the field of environmental protection and biodiversity restoration. The total area of protected areas has been expanded, which will be continued in the future as well. Nowadays, protected areas in Georgia embrace major ecosystems existing throughout the country " - said Levan Davitashvili.
The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev thanked Levan Davitashvili for his  active participation in the international conference and drew his attention to the possibility to implement joint projects in the future.
Under the frame of the cross-border cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the project of restoration of gazelles was also discussed by participants. As a result of cooperation between the countries, the number of gazelles in the Vashlovani National Park has significantly increased. The conference was organized by the WWF Caucasus Delegation, German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW).
The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, as well as officials of the Ministry, international and local independent experts and representatives of donor organizations attended the conference.
