Levan Davitashvili met with the farmers in Kakheti region

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili accompanied by Kakheti Governor, Irakli Kadagishvili met with the farmers in Kakheti region.
"We create tools for farmers to increase their productivity to produce more competitive products and get more revenue with lower costs - said Levan Davitashvili , who provided farmers with the projects implemented in the agricultural sector and highlighted existing challenges as well.
From 2012 till today, more than 15 thousand, dozens of million agricultural preferential agro credit was issued to support agricultural development in Kakheti region, thereby, it should be mentioned, that most of the funds were put in livestock and viticulture sectors.
At present, 62 new enterprises are opened  and 373 more are expanded through state support in Kakheti region. Moreover, due to systemic measures taken in viticulture and winemaking sector we face positive results, namely new vineyards have been planted, 30 new enterprises are built and  63 old enterprises are  expanded, the volume of wine export is increased and export markets are diversified. Georgian Government provides a support to strengthen viticulture and winemaking field. In 2018, a record number, more than 230 thousand tons of grapes were processed  in the country and the income of wine growers exceded over 300 million gel. According to the preliminary forecasts, at the end of the year, about 100 million bottles of wine will be exported.
From  2012 till today, the income of vine growers in Kakheti region has reached to GEL 912 million, of which 300 million is the revenue received in 2018.
Within the frame of the program "Plant the Future" 245 projects are implemented, total investment is more than 16 million GEL, from which 10 million GEL is state financial support. Under the program, nuts, almonds, olives, hazelnuts and persimmon orchards are planted on more than 2,000 ha of agricultural land .
Since 2014, the state agro insurance program is operating throughout the country. The program is targeted at people engaged in agricultural activities to maintain their income and reduce risks. The share of co-financing by state is 70% (50% in case of vine). As of today, 6,230 hectares of land in Kakheti region are insured by various cultures worth of 45,828,450 GEL.
Gurjaani Regional Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia provides laboratory services for eight regional municipalities in the region.
As a result of the repair works carried out in Gurjaani laboratory, the infrastructure is renovated, the laboratory is equipped with modern equipment, therefore, survey of food and water as well as diagnostics for dangerous plant pests and brucellosis is provided.
12 cooperative enterprises were created in Kvareli, Telavi and Gurjaani municipalities within the frame of the state program "Promotion of Viticulture Agricultural Cooperatives". Within the program, each participating cooperative was supplied with the equipment necessary  for the first processing of 100 tons of grapes. The cooperative members participating in the program have opportunities to get benefit from the sale of grape as well as from the sale of wine.
• In 2015-2016, acacia plantations have been planted on 30,6 ha  in Kvareli, Dedoplistskaro and Gurjaani, in order to facilitate natural renewal of forest.
• As a result of repair and rehabilitation works carried out by the state, from 2012 till today, 54 projects have been completed in Kakheti region.
As a result, 14.037 hectares of agricultural land is provided with water, water irrigation is improved at 1, 333 hectares, land drainage was carried out on 5 724 hectares of land .
