Opening ceremony of the rehabilitated structure of regulation hydroscheme in the town of Poti
Levan Davitashvili-Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture and Maya Tskitishvili –Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure have opened the rehabilitated structure of the Rioni River regulation hydroscheme in the town of Poti. Rehabilitation works with total cost of GEL 1 336 000 have been carried out by “Georgian Amelioration” ltd. All works have been undertaken required for ensuring maximal discharge of water flow by the structure in case of floods.“This is a key structure for water level and flow regulation to protect the town of Poti and adjacent agricultural land area from flooding during disasters. The structure was constructed in 1959 and for proper operation required capital repairs that have been carried out by “Georgian Amelioration”. This fact is of great significance for the town of Poti and adjacent villages “-Levan Davitashvili mentioned. Maya Tskitishvili spoke about rehabilitation of the bridge adjacent to the structure of the Rioni River regulation hydroscheme that the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure initiates next year.
“We are in tight cooperation with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and implement number of projects. Our ministry runs several projects in the town of Poti, including General Development Plan which at present is in the process of elaboration. Furthermore, rehabilitation of the Poti bridge is scheduled. It’d be mentioned that we’ve got approval from Asian Development Bank to fund this project which shall be initiated next year. This is the project that the population of the town of Poti had been looking forward for years” –Maya Tskitishvili said.
Within the project repair works have been carried out on the regulation hydroscheme consisting of the dam and sluice gate. Depreciated electric-mechanical devices have been replaced; water division dam structure and subsidiary structures have been repaired; the adjacent territory has been developed.
Active works on the entire territory of the hydroscheme were in progress for five months. Irakli Khakhubia- Member of Parliament of the town of Poti, Giorgi Khanishvili-Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture and representatives of local self-government and respective agencies of the ministries have attended the opening ceremony of the rehabilitated structure of the Rioni River regulation hydroscheme.
