ENPARD – Steering Committee Meeting
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze attended the meeting of the European Neighborhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) Steering Committee.
The First Deputy Minister has been focused on issues related to the implementation of the Agricultural Development Strategy, Rural Development Strategy and relevant action plans, he also drew his attention to the Cooperative Development Agency to merge with the Agricultural Projects Management Agency and the modification of the Extension System. The attention was paid on the development of cooperative farms in the dairy and wine sector and export opportunities of agricultural products.
Within the frame of the meeting, the participants discussed achievements and challenges of local action groups (LAG). It was noted, that in the end of the year, several new local action groups (LAG) are planned to be established in different regions of Georgia.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The Attaché on Agriculture, Programme Manager at the EU Delegation to Georgia, Cristina Casella, as well as representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) attended the meeting.
It should be noted, that the European Union supports agriculture and rural development through ENPARD program in Georgia. The program is implemented since 2013 and its total budget amounts to 179.5 million euros (2013-2022). The main objective of ENPARD is to overcome poverty in rural areas of Georgia.
