Project-mining tourism and development of organic agriculture
On the International Mountain Day, the representatives of the Ethnographic Museum of Georgia, the EU, Sweden and Austria signed an agreement “Green Economy: Sustainable Mountain Tourism and Organic Agriculture” (GRETA) to start mining tourism and organic agriculture in Georgia.
The joint 4 year project will start in 2019 and will support Zemo Svaneti, Racha - Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti and Imereti regions. To promote sustainable development of mountain tourism, the project envisages establishment of national quality standards and control system to make guests' visit more enjoyable and offer a variety of travel services for local suppliers.
Hotels as well as travel guides will be certified according to the international standards. Within the frame of the development of organic farming, the project envisages harmonization of Georgian law on organic agriculture with the EU organic agriculture legislation, including establishment of internal control system, strengthening of farmers' cooperatives engaged in organic agriculture.
The Agreement will facilitate closer cooperation between EU and Georgia. It envisages : Improvement of the Legal Business Environment, creation of additional income streams and developing innovative business models. The project was developed under the frame of the close cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and National Tourism Administration of Georgia.
