New Program to launch in 2019

In 2019, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture will launch the Organic Production and Certification Program. The tools to promote organic farming products in Georgia was the main topic at the workshop, which was organized by the Agricultural Projects Management Agency. The meeting was held at Tbilisi Marriott Hotel.
"The state launches a significant complex program to promote organic production and certification process, which is the part of the Prime Minister's Green Economy Initiative. Up to this time, farmers received fragmented aid from donors. This project is of utmost importance for us and will be the solid foundation for a large scale program, which will be comprised of the co-financing component for primary food production and processing enterprises, tax benefits, training sessions to increase knowledge and a certification process. The project embraces all stakeholders, including associations, which acquire a great experience in organic farming ” "said Levan Davitashvili.
As was noted, Georgia has a huge potential in bio production, the demand for bio products increases year by year worlwide, accordingly the use of this potential is doubly important.
Organic producers, organizations providing organic certification services, representatives of donor organizations and various international organizations participated in the workshop.
The new project will be implemented within the frame of the "Unified Agro Project" and is targeted on a long-term development. The project aims to promote the steady growth of a high-quality production, introduction of food safety international standards, and subsequently to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in Georgia.
