Project ’’ New opportunities in vocational agricultural education’’

Georgian Farmers Association through support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Swiss Cooperation Office (SCO) has organized an overview of the project - ’’ New opportunities in vocational agricultural education’’. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Giorgi Khanishvili attended the event. The project aims to prepare agricultural students to reach the highest level of professional competence and involves state and Georgian farmers to participate in educational programs. Through introduction of a new model of teaching and joint efforts made by the public and private sectors students will get theoretical and practical knowledge.

According to the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture the farmers should acquire not only theoretical knowledge but practical experience as well. "We think our farmers who are going to be further involved in the agricultural activities should acquire theoretical knowledge, but it is also important to put theoretical knowledge into a practice. Georgia has a rich experience, great prospects and I believe, that dual education will occupy a significant place in the education system of Georgia "Giorgi Khanishvili said.

Through participation of the private sector, 102 applicants were selected for employer-based training programs from 160 registered applicants of 6 regions of Georgia. The programs included breeding, beekeeping and veterinary fields.
