Levan Davitashvili met with Abdellah Srour

 The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili met with the Executive Secretary of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) and (UN FAO) Abdellah Srour.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for your cooperation. Under the frame of the Agreement Georgian side will receive a technical assistance -a special equipment to implement and ensure the overall performance of the monitoring systems in the Black Sea region. The Agreement will facilitate to the Development of Fish Farming in Georgia. We appreciate your support. One of the most important issues for us is our legal obligation to harmonize domestic law with EU requirements particularly in domestic fishing. I think we will have a significant progress in the development of fish farming in Georgia" - said Levan Davitashvili.

 At the meeting, the Minister has been focused on the needs to improve data collection, develop sustainable marine aquaculture, build capacity among experts and adequately implement control and monitoring systems in the Black Sea region.

 As the Executive Secretary of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), Abdellah Srour declared, Georgia's fishery sector has a great potential for the development, thereby, under the frame of the commitments undertaken by Georgian Government he pledged to provide a full support.

 The First Deputy Minister, Nodar Kereselidze attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The letter of Agreement between Georgia and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was signed in the beginning of 2018, which will contribute to the development of fishery sector and aquaculture in Georgia.
