A Memorandum on Water Management was signed with France
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and Artois Picardie Water Agency (France). The memorandum was signed by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Giorgi Chkheidze and Mr. Bertrand Galtier, Director General, Artois-Picardie Water Agency, France.
According to the Memorandum, the Parties aim to develop technical cooperation between the two countries. The main areas of cooperation includes integrated water management, data gathering and enhancement of knowledge in water utilization. Thus, according to the memorandum, the parties expressed their readiness to start their cooperation in Integrated Water Resource Management according to the applicable national law that will be extended for three years.
" It is very important, that we have signed a cooperation agreement with the French Water Agency, which will help to better understand legislative issues. It should be noted, that France and European Union countries have got a great experience in this respect and our legislation will take into consideration their experience’’- said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Giorgi Chkheidze.
During the meeting, French guests highlighted issues on French water policy and EU integration of the Water Framework Directive, they have shared their experience with Georgian colleagues. The Deputy Minister spoke about the sustainable development of hydropower and dam and stressed the importance of ecological security as well as proper use of natural resources.
The representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Energy Program (UEP), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Georgian Renewable Energy Company and other Donor and NGOs attended the meeting.
