Levan Davitashvili opened the Conference ‘’Global G.A.P’’

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili opened the Conference ‘’Global Gap Capacity Building’’ in Georgia. At the event, the farmers have been provided with the comprehensive information on the standard of good agricultural practices. According to the Minister, consolidated Ministry envisages environmental responsibility as well as sustainable agriculture development, this will result operating procedures on standards to become more flexible and efficient.

It is important to have an access to high value markets and increase credibility of Georgian products. In this respect the GLOBAL G.A.P in terms of the standardization of agricultural production is of utmost importance -was stated by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

"It should be noted, that we make certain interventions in the agricultural sector, including access to markets and their diversification.  The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) with the European Union imposes a number of commitments and opens the EU internal market to Georgia.

According to the EU market access requirements the products should have a relevant quality and should be recognized. I am happy to participate in today's conference. The introduction of the GLOBAL G.A.P standard to our farmers and manufacturers is directly linked with the opening to new opportunities and identifying alternative markets. It is important for us to have an access to high value markets and increase credibility of Georgian products " - said Levan Davitashvili.

"I think this event is of utmost importance. Today, all stakeholders are represented in one space. We will discuss the importance of the introduction of GLOBAL G.A.P standard in the agricultural practices. I think the information received today will help manufacturers and farmers to improve their practices and find new markets " - said Secretariat Expert on Economic Issues, Enrique Uribe.

The conference held at the hotel "Courtyard Marriott Tbilisi" was supported by the consulting company GDSI“, Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Georgia and initiated by "Tractor".

The conference was attended by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture officials and its’ agencies, representatives of information-consulting services and farmers.
