The International Day of Environmental Protection was marked in the National Botanical Garden

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia celebrated the World Environment Day with the support of the USAID and Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN). The event was held in the National Botanical Garden of Georgia.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze congratulated the audience on the World Environment Day, underlined the importance of similar events, which promote  environmental awareness in  society and noted, that Georgia celebrates the World Environment Day by reducing plastic use.

"We should increase our awareness on plastic waste pollution. We as a policy-making body consider this issue as a matter of priority. The Georgian government has already developed its initiative on "Rules for Regulation of Plastics and Biodegradable Bags" and the Ministry will present the project on technical regulations in the nearest future. Our goal is to live in a better environment " - said Nodar Kereselidze.

Nana Janashia, Executive Director of the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN), noted that the World Environment Day is considered as one of the most important events celebrated annually.

"We are glad to support and participate in this important event. Protecting the Environment is everyone's duty -said Shamena Gali, Deputy Director of economic office of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). A number of cognitive-entertaining activities dedicated to the World Environment Day were held in the National Botanical Garden of Georgia. The representatives of Tbilisi City Hall and City Council attended the event.
