A large-scale cleaning campaign dedicated to World Environment Day

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili took part in the cleaning campaign dedicated to World Environment Day. The participants of the campaign cleaned the area around the city Mtskheta. The theme for 2018 is "Beat Plastic Pollution".

"The purpose of the World Environment Day is to increase public awareness and responsibility towards environment protection. All members of the community should take care and have a clean ecological environment to support sustainable environmental development in the country. Most importantly, we have to implement the slogan "Our country is our responsibility" and we should refuse the plastic "said Solomon Pavliashvili.

According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, in recent years the use of plastic bags has significantly increased in Georgia. The plastic production has increased dramatically in many countries around the world including Georgia. "As it is known, most of the environment is damaged by wastes from plastic products, residual plastic substances require more than 100 years for complete disintegration.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June since 1973. The campaign organized by the Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia is supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and financed by the Swedish Government.
