The Contest ‘’Clean Region" 2018

The winners of the contest "Clean Region" 2018 were revealed under the campaign “Clean Up Georgia” (Phase III). The event was organized by the "Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth - Georgia" with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

The competition "Clean Region" aims to reveal the cleanest region, municipality, city / small town, clean village / community, clean street, beautiful clean yard and clean balcony throughout the country.
It is worth mentioning that, the contest "Clean Region" as a promoting event has contributed to prioritize waste management, increase public awareness and reduce the number of landfills across the country. According to Nino Chkhobadze, Chairman of the organization "Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth - Georgia", 1357 landfill sites were registered in 2012-2013 in Georgia, out of which 333 are remained at present.
The special Commission comprising of the (Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, representatives of public organizations and journalists), on the basis of the online photos / video materials  the list of nominees and winners in different categories were revealed. The representatives of different regions were actively engaged in the competition.
The Deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili and Yuri Nozadze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Georgia, Ulrik Tideström and representatives of other Agencies within the Ministry awarded the winners.
The list of the contest winners include:
• Nomination - "Clean Region" - Kakheti Region;
• Nomination - "Clean City" - Zugdidi;
• Nomination - "Clean Municipality" - Zugdidi Municipality;
• Nomination - "Clean Village" - Village Chorvila (Sachkhere);
• Nomination - "Beautiful Balcony" - Patman Grigolava's house balcony (Kutaisi);
• Nomination - "Beautiful Yard" -  First Place in three categories: Nomination (Private) "Beautiful Yard" - Akaki Gedenidze (Khoni Municipality); Nomination " A Yard located in the residential area surrounded by a block of flats" - Zugdidi, Kuji Street; The nomination "Legal Entity Yard" - Wine Company GWS (Telavi).
The project is implemented with the financial support of the Swedish government, supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in cooperation with the solid waste management company and the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Parliament of Georgia, as well as the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
