Levan Davitashvili participated in the Ministerial Meeting in Berlin

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili took part in the Annual Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), where up to 80 Ministers of Agriculture from different countries across the world were participating along with the representatives of international organizations. Under the frame of the International Exhibition "Green Week", the 11th Global Forum was held at the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin. The main focus was made on the “Agriculture Goes Digital – Smart Solutions for Future Farming”.
According to the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Julia Klöckner, the fight against the hunger is the biggest challenge of humanity, therefore, development of agriculture plays a decisive role in addressing consumer demand for food.
In the last fifty years, the technological, biological, chemical and business management innovations have succeeded in almost tripling the food production, however, 800 million people are literally marching to the brink of starvation around the world.  The maintenance of soil, water, energy resources, as well as biodiversity is still remained a big challenge. The use of modern technologies will enable to prepare a preliminary forecast for climate change, which will further promote a rapid growth of food production.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture stated, that, along with the growth of food production, the sustainable principles should be established, embracing geographical origin of agriculture products and scientific research and which at the same time will consider protection of environment and biodiversity with its individual species, which vary in importance all over the world. According to the Minister, digital transformation is an irreversible process;
It should be noted, that Government of Georgia has already taken a challenge by boldly embracing digitalization in public sector. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has created a registry of farms and farmers that will further promote the implementation of state projects, contribute to the elimination of poverty, and will lead to the increase of farmers’ income.
Under the frame of the Forum, the Ministers have been focused on four key issues: Use of Digital Technologies in Agriculture, Farmers Access to Digital Technologies, Information Security and Information Sovereignty, Structural Changes and the Importance of Political Support in the Digital Transformation of Agriculture.
At the end of the Ministerial meeting, a Communiqué has been elaborated by participants, under which the main directions concerning digitalization of agriculture by partner countries by the year 2019 were identified and established.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Georgia on the Issues of Agriculture and Rural development,  Davit Kirvalidze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Germany, Elguja Khokrishvili attended the Ministerial meeting in Berlin.
