Renewed plan for cooperation to sign with FAO

Under the frame of the official visit to Berlin, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili met with the FAO Deputy Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, Raimund Jehle.
At the meeting, the two sides signed a renewed document on the strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture for 2017-2020. The above mentioned document aims to boost agricultural competitiveness and eradicate poverty in rural areas by considering the principles on equality, increasing food production, also implementing activities envisaged under the Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy and Action Plan.
The document is comprised of a number issues, including development of Georgia's agricultural extension system, providing services tailored to the needs of the community, introduction of more environmentally-friendly agricultural systems and ecosystems in the regions and arrangement of demonstration plots for this purpose.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, local self-governments and professional development centers, farmers and private beneficiaries are considered as main partners of the project.
The technical assistance will be provided under the frame of the four year project. Levan Davitashvili underlined the importance of support provided by FAO, embracing ongoing agricultural and environmental reforms,  also promoting best practices in the  implementation of Georgian government policy.
"We are glad to welcome representatives as well as experts of FAO, about 40 employees of FAO are residing in Tbilisi, who are willing to exchange their knowledge and provide advice or other expert assistance to Georgian farmers’’- said Levan Davitashvili.
Georgia being an important partner in the region –was stressed by Raimund Jehle, who also drew attention to the sectoral reforms implemented by Georgian Government to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
