Presentation on the National Policy on the Ambient Air Protection in Georgia

Under the Green Policy initiative, the presentation on the ambient air protection policy was conducted in the exhibition center "Expo Georgia". The Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili addressed the participants.
 ‘’Protecting atmospheric air is one of the crucial directions of our green policy.The Government's green policy refers to a long-term vision of the country's development. Moreover, I would say that it is a new way of life in that we cherish and care for nature, share responsibility to enjoy fresh air and, ultimately, healthy environment offering a life of safety to generations to come. When it comes to environmental protection, protecting from air pollution and taking concrete steps to this end is of utmost importance, of course "said Mamuka Bakhtadze.
The  atmospheric air protection was the main topic presented by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture who also discussed how to improve the fuel quality and air quality monitoring and evaluation system in the country.
"The quality of air has a direct impact on human health. Accordingly, improvement of air quality is one of the main priorities of Georgian Government and our Ministry " - stated Levan Davitashvili.

Along with the report on the activities carried out by the Ministry and planned activities, the audience has been acquainted with the air quality portal air.gov.ge as well. The Director of Environmental Information and Education, Tamar Aladashvili presented detailed information on the air quality portal.

Under the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agricultre, the air quality portal was created with the joint effort of the Environmental Information and Education Center and the National Environmental Agency. Air Quality Portal provides any interested person with the possibility of continuously receiving air quality information from all the cities of Georgia, where air quality is being observed and monitored continuously. Any interested person will receive the latest information about the atmospheric air quality and, if necessary, appropriate health care recommendations will be provided as well.
The Ministry informs, that the negotiations are underway with the European Environmental Agency, where sides discuss issues regarding Georgia’s atmospheric air data to be exposed on the European air quality portal in continuous flow mode.
The representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, international organizations, academic, governmental and non-governmental sectors attended the meeting.
